Perfect Storm?

According to Wikipedia, I have an excuse. It's called stupidity. In all likelihood I was hyperkalemic (high potassium) on Sunday. Symptoms tend to be nonspecific but often include malaise, palpitations and muscle weakness. I didn't notice palpitations, but I sure did the other two.

I happen to like Larabars, but when I checked the potassium content this morning, I was surprised to see how much they contain. I had three Larabars on Saturday, which gave me enough K to satisfy the RDA. I also had a Luna, which is a little lower in K but still pretty high.  I ate five other bars, the wrappers for which don't mention K. Add another 320 mg. through GuBrew and an unknown amount through a generous Ziplock bag full of dried mangoes. At the least, my intake was twice the RDA.

Certain medications interfere with the elimination of potassium through urination, including ACE inhibitors, potassium-sparing diuretics and NSAIDs such as ibuprofen. I take the first two for hypertension. In the run up to the EC and on Saturday and Sunday, I had 800 mg. of ibuprofen every four hours.

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm doubtful I could have made it under the best of circumstances, but at least I'm showing creativity in my long search for ways to DNF.

Blogspot doesn't seem interested in having images today, so I refer you to another fine Google product for a few snapshots:
